New York Law School alumni at Sullivan & Cromwell work within each of the Firm’s four main practice areas: General Practice (corporate), Estates & Personal, Litigation and Tax. John Estes (NYLS ’95), is a partner in the Firm’s Corporate and Finance Group and responsible for the Firm's High Yield & Leveraged Finance practice. He also oversees the Firm’s Visiting Lawyers Program. John was elected to the partnership in 2002. His practice focuses of leveraged finance transactions and cross-border financing. John was resident in the Firm's Melbourne, Australia office for more than ten years and was the managing partner of the Firm's Australian practice from 2005 to 2010. While maintaining a generalist approach to their practices, NYLS alumni at the Firm focus on a broad range of matters, including arbitration, capital markets, leveraged finance and lending, charitable and other tax-exempt organizations, corporate governance, employee retirement plans, financial services, healthcare and life sciences, high-yield debt, international trade and investment, Latin America, mergers and acquisitions, natural resources, personal tax and estate planning, private equity, project development and finance and real estate. Several NYLS alumni are also involved in the Firm’s pro bono work; recent matters include representing a political asylum seeker, capital litigation in federal habeas corpus claims and the Anti-Defamation League Research Project.

In addition to becoming partners at S&C, NYLS alumni who join the Firm go on to pursue a range of prestigious opportunities.
