Alumni of Fordham Law School at Sullivan & Cromwell practice within a broad range of areas under our General Practice (corporate) and Litigation groups in both our domestic and international offices. Two S&C partners are alumni of the Law School: William Farrar (Fordham ’92) is a member of the Firm’s Investment Management, Corporate and Finance, and Financial Services groups; Glen Schleyer (Fordham ’98) is a member of the Firm’s Corporate and Finance, Financial Services, Executive Compensation and Corporate Governance groups.
The practice areas of Fordham Law associates at S&C include Antitrust Litigation, Appellate Litigation, Restructuring, Criminal Defense and Investigations, Corporate and Finance, and Mergers and Acquisitions. Several S&C Fordham alumni have clerked, including three at the federal appellate level.
In keeping with Fordham Law’s focus on public service—the class of 2017 performed nearly 120,000 hours of public interest work during their time at Fordham Law—many alumni are actively involved in the Firm’s pro bono practice. In 2017, the Firm's lawyers and staff devoted more than 63,000 hours to a range of pro bono activities. Recent matters include successful representation of a deaf inmate in his complaint of continued denial of hearing aids and accommodations necessary to provide meaningful access to programs and activities on an equal basis with hearing individuals (for which the team received an “Outstanding Achievement Award” from the Washington Lawyers’ Committee); representation of a death row inmate in connection with post-conviction proceedings in Alabama, including litigation involving Alabama’s lethal injection protocol; obtaining a favorable settlement for a client on the eve of trial for a client denied residency in an assisted living facility in New York; and coaching the mock trial team of a public high school.
In addition to becoming partners at the Firm, Fordham alumni who join S&C go on to pursue a range of prestigious opportunities. S&C alumni who attended Fordham Law School currently work in government (including Assistant U.S. Attorney Sylvia Shweder), consulting, finance and as counsel to Fortune 500 companies.
Over the past three years, five Fordham Law students have joined us as summer associates. We hope you will take the time to learn more about Fordham alumni, our presence at the law school and how to apply on these pages. We hope to see you on campus.
