The Tokyo office was established in 1987 promptly after the change in Japanese regulations allowing foreign lawyers to establish offices in Japan and has developed a leading reputation in:

We are located in the Otemachi/Marunouchi area, steps away from Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace grounds. This is the financial center of Japan, home to many of Japan’s largest financial institutions and corporations, and also puts us in close reach to virtually any location in Japan.

We maintain a small and efficient office, and we pride ourselves on the professional yet friendly relationships among our lawyers.

The office is interested in U.S.-qualified lawyers directly out of law school or with experience in capital markets and/or M&A in particular.

Japanese language capability (which need not be native level) is required. For associates who are not native Japanese speakers, a private Japanese language lesson is offered once a week.

To learn more about our associate and summer associate positions, please see Your Career at S&C. Hiring for our Tokyo office is coordinated out of the New York office. Please see the Apply section of our website for information on how to submit an application.
